Ardis is a local artist and educator who works in a wide variety of media, but specializes in jewelry and textiles. Her jewelry is created with a combination of commercial beads and handmade polymer beads and varied shapes. Her inspiration comes from nature, her own inner sense of design, and love of rich color. Her jewelry work can be seen at the Purple Poppy Gift Shop in Crownsville, or by contacting the artist personally. Ardis has been crafting garments for many years. While occasionally using man-made fibers or a blend, she prefers natural fibers with a particular preference for cotton, wool, silk, and new fibers like bamboo for their feel, texture, and drape. Her works are created from, not only commercial yarns, but also yarns she has spun from wool and wool roving that has been hand dyed. Ardis has also prepared her own wool, by carding and hand-dying it. As with her jewelry, she prefers deep, rich and vibrant colors in her original creations.
